On the inside edge of the driver’s door is a tag that lists the year of the vehicle, country of origin, the type of engine installed, and usually, the transmission. If your vehicle didn’t come with an owners manual (which is common if you bought it used), there are a few other ways to figure out which transmission you have. Your owner’s manual contains a wealth of information, such as the type of transmission, the kind of transmission fluid to use, and how often you should change the fluid and filter. One of the best places to find vehicle-specific information is in the glove box.
